Browne’s Gerüstbau Appoints Qualified Meister to Lead German Operations
Browne’s Gerüstbau GmbH is proud to announce the appointment of Matthias Winkel as our officially recognised Gerüstbauermeister in Germany.
In Germany, the Meister qualification carries significant weight. It is not simply a job title, but a state-recognised master craftsman status forming part of the country’s long-established vocational framework. Across many skilled trades from electrical and mechanical services to carpentry, roofing and scaffolding – a qualified Meister is legally required to supervise operations, train apprentices and take technical responsibility for works undertaken.
Within the scaffolding sector in particular, the Gerüstbauermeister plays a central role. German trade law requires scaffolding businesses to have a Meister in place to operate legally. The Meister is accountable for technical compliance, safe design, workmanship standards and training within the company. It is a role that combines leadership, expertise and formal responsibility.
Matthias brings both experience and heritage to the position. After completing his apprenticeship as a painter and varnisher, he moved into scaffolding within his father’s company and has remained in the profession ever since. In 2020, he achieved his master craftsman’s certificate, formalising years of hands-on experience with recognised technical qualification.
When asked about his favourite project, Matthias laughs: “It was quite some time ago: 34 metres long, 6 metres high, and you could park right next to the street.” Sometimes it’s the practical jobs that leave the biggest impression.
Outside of work, Matthias has long been passionate about ice hockey. He played competitively until beginning master school and has been attending games as a spectator since the mid-1990s.
The appointment of Matthias as Meister represents an important milestone for Browne’s Gerüstbau. It reinforces our commitment to operating fully within German regulatory standards and demonstrates that our presence in Germany is built on proper local structure, recognised technical leadership and long-term intent.
For clients in the data centre and industrial sectors, this provides clear assurance: Browne’s Gerüstbau is a properly established German scaffolding company, operating with full compliance, professional accountability and master-level oversight at its core.
Welcome aboard Matthias!
