Specialist Scaffolding Services
Some jobs require more than standard scaffolding. They demand technical experience, careful planning and a deep understanding of safety.
Complex Access. Zero Compromise.
Browne’s Scaffolding has become a trusted partner for specialist access solutions in difficult and often high-risk environments, including confined space operations and full encapsulation projects. Our teams are available for 24-hour emergency call-outs and include qualified confined space rescue operatives, providing reassurance that the right people and equipment can be on site at short notice.
Each project is managed by trained specialists with current industry certification and supported by detailed risk assessments, rescue plans, and safe systems of work. Whether operating inside a tank, beneath a reservoir, or enclosing a large structure for weather protection, Browne’s applies the same discipline, planning and professionalism that underpins all our work.
Confined Space Solutions
Working in a confined space requires precision, patience, and expertise. Browne’s operatives are fully trained and experienced in carrying out scaffolding works within restricted environments, where ventilation, access and atmospheric conditions must be continuously monitored.
Our project documentation includes tailored method statements and risk assessments covering gas testing, rescue and recovery procedures, and the use of breathing apparatus. Every element is considered before work begins to ensure safe and efficient progress from start to finish.
Recent specialist projects
Below are some examples of Browne’s confined space project. Safe, controlled scaffolding operations in confined spaces, backed by specialist training, gas testing and comprehensive rescue planning.
Interior Painting
Portswood Water Treatment Works
At Portswood, Browne’s built a circular scaffold inside the tank to allow the application of a specialist sealant coating. The system consisted of four lifts, three of which were fully boarded to create safe access for operatives working on internal surfaces.
Barcombe Reservoir
Inlet Valve Access
At Barcombe Reservoir, Browne’s installed a scaffold platform extending from the bank out over the water. The platform allowed engineers to reach and repair the main inlet valve safely. Although appearing open, the area met the criteria for a confined space, and all control measures and emergency procedures were implemented accordingly.
Support Towers
Gorrell Tank, Whitstable
Inside the underground storm water tank at Whitstable, Browne’s erected 82 support towers to stabilise a corroded concrete structure supporting the car park above. Each tower was individually inspected and load-tested to verify stability and eliminate movement over the course of the works.
Shrinkwrap Encapsulation
Browne’s operates a dedicated Shrinkwrap Division providing complete encapsulation systems for construction, marine and refurbishment projects. Shrinkwrap creates a secure, weatherproof barrier that protects ongoing works from wind, rain and contamination, keeping projects on schedule in all seasons.
Using precision heat-shrinking methods, the sheeting is tensioned tightly around the scaffold frame to prevent tearing or flapping in high winds. The result is a clean, durable finish that enhances the appearance of any site and safeguards the work inside. All encapsulated scaffolds are designed to account for the increased wind loading created by shrinkwrap, ensuring safety and structural integrity throughout.
Shrinkwrap Projects

Residential Property, Kent
Temporary Roof and Weather Protection
Browne’s was appointed to provide full access and protection for a property undergoing vertical extension. As the existing roof was removed, the scaffold was enclosed with shrinkwrap sheeting to create a sealed, weather-resistant working environment that allowed construction to continue without interruption.

Superyacht
Deck Refurbishment Enclosure
For a marine client, Browne’s installed a shrinkwrapped enclosure over the top deck of a superyacht to enable controlled surface preparation and recoating. The sealed structure provided a clean, weatherproof environment that maintained quality standards and environmental compliance throughout the works.

Condor Ferry
Access and Encapsulation, Cherbourg
At Cherbourg Port, Browne’s delivered an encapsulated scaffold along the side of a high-speed ferry undergoing refurbishment. The scaffold included a shrinkwrapped roof and face covering, creating a fully enclosed workspace that allowed safe, efficient progress while preventing overspray and protecting the surrounding dockside area.
